We build Homes – We change lives – including our own!

Come and vacation with a purpose. We provide a life-rewarding experience by assembling Build Teams that fundraise $9,000 to build a home for the working poor in the Dominican Republic.

We travel as a team, to an all-inclusive resort to spend a week in the Dominican partnering with several ministries building a home, working with an orphanage, a school, pregnancy centre and innercity ministries.

How Much Will It Cost?

Each participant pays $250 (Cdn) for the hire of a translator, air-conditioned bus, and local administration fees.

As well, each team member is responsible for their own flight and accommodation fees with an all-inclusive resort. Participants may use any “vacation package” in Puerto Plata but we recommend Westjet because of their humanitarian luggage policy and their ongoing commitment to improving the social needs of the many Haitian refugees and people of the Dominican Republic.

At Canadians Care we work ‘on-site’; meet the family; visit the current housing and the dedicate their new home allowing them a new start in life. A home for the poor in the Dominican Republic is through The Samaritan Foundation a Canadian non-for-profit charity.

Canadians Care Partnership Ministries began with the visionary support of St. Andrew’s United Church in Cumberland, Ontario, Canada as Cumberland Cares. Today, we have expanded our vision to encourage participants from other parts of Ottawa and other cities across Canada.

What does a ‘Typical Day’ look like?

A typical “build day” will include breakfast then transportation from your all-inclusive, accommodation to a predetermined work site. We will work until lunch. The early afternoon will be spent with partner ministries discovering the needs and work being done to better people’s lives.

Late afternoon we return to the resort or beach for a swim, prepare for dinner and then take in the nightly entertainment. Canadians Care allows for at least one full free day for exploring, excursions, shopping or just relaxing by the water.
