Our Mission and History

Our Mission

The Mission of Canadians Care Partnership Ministries is to provide global Outreach assistance by partnering with volunteers and other Christian Ministries to fund raise and work to assist and support communities in need. Our goal is to relieve poverty by providing viable housing, assisting orphans, enhancing education, delivering food and supporting medical and religious facilities to those in need.

Our History

Canadians Care Partnership Ministries, formerly known as Cumberland Cares (2015-2018), has worked in the Dominican Republic primarily with Haitian refugees living there without citizenship or legal status. Many have fled from Haiti and crossed over to the Dominion Republic homeless, starving and without hope.

Canadians Care Partnership Ministries is a registered Christian Ministry that works with a collection of ministry partnerships such as The Samaritan Foundation (Welland, Ontario). The Samaritan Foundation has been providing housing, schools, churches and medical centers for over 30 years.

Canadians Care Partnership Ministries is an umbrella organization for ‘caring communities’ across Canada and is an incorporated not-for-profit partnership Ministry.

When you donate $20 or more you will receive a Charitable Tax Receipt from either The Samaritan Foundation OR 2nd Chance International. As a conduit, Canadians Care provides our donations for their work in the Dominican Republic.

Our Ministry Partners

We have a role to play in sharing God’s love by taking a Vacation with a Purpose and raising the necessary funds to help build homes for some of the world’s poorest people.

Canadians Care Partnership Ministries is operated by the Rev’s Robert and Hilary Merritt. They have both worked in Ministry with the United Church of Canada for more than 30 years. The Merritts have extensive knowledge of partnership visits and have visited more than 35 countries.

This is the list of Ministries we are currently partnering with:

Our Reason for Being

We believe in God’s economy of giving much to receive more.

“It is God’s soil upon which we are all standing.  Human-made boundaries cannot restrict the love of God from reaching all humanity.” – Pastor Sandra of Agua Negro, Puerto Plata

Paying Tribute to Mary Merritt and Reverend Paul and Janice Scrutton – We are All Children of God

Canadians Care Partnership Ministries pays tribute to the memory of Mary Merritt who encouraged the saying of this prayer: “Dear God, may we always be more thoughtful, loving, and kind. Amen.”

Also, in honour of Hilary’s parents, Reverend Paul and Janice Scrutton, who modelled the importance of Mission and Partnership since their early days with the British Methodist Church in French West Africa.
